Of 139 randomly selected students (a 10% sample of 1388 students enrolled in Fall 1999)
we received 106 responses (a 76% response rate).
53 (50%) had never smoked a cigarette.
31 (29%) had smoked, but not in the past 30 days.
17 (16%) had smoked in the last 30 days, but don't smoke every day.
5 ( 5%) usually smoke every day.

Of 139 randomly selected students we received 107 responses (a 77% response rate).
58 (54%) had never smoked a cigarette.
23 (22%) had smoked, but not in the past 30 days.
14 (13%) had smoked in the last 30 days, but don't smoke every day.
12 ( 11%) usually smoke every day.
Combined results (213 total responses, or 15.3% of the student body):
111 (52%) had never smoked a cigarette.
54 (25%) had smoked, but not in the past 30 days.
31 (15%) had smoked in the last 30 days, but don't smoke every day.
17 ( 8%) usually smoke every day.
