UTILITY SHUTDOWNS:
- There are no utility shut-downs scheduled for this
period.
WORK AREAS:
Cornell Library
- There is no work scheduled in the Cornell Library during this
period.
Cornell Addition (a.k.a. Biology/ Commons Wing)
- Metal cladding on the soffits at the main Commons roof will
continue during the next two weeks. Slate flooring will continue
in the Commons. The 200-Seat Lecture Hall audio-visual equipment
installation is continuing. This area was inspected and approved
for occupancy by the State L&I Inspector on April 10th. The
temporary walls between the Cornell Addition and the Commons will
be partially removed and reconfigured during this period. The
Coffee Bar casework and equipment installation is on-going. The
decorative metal ceiling and light fixtures at the Coffee Bar will
be installed during this period. Work has also started on the
construction of temporary offices for the Physics faculty in rooms
104 and 105.
Chiller Plant
- The acoustical roof screen installation will continue through
this period. Chiller pipe flushing will be completed during this
period. The electric centrifugal chiller was started up this week
and will readied for service during this period.
Chemistry/Astronomy Wing
- Insulation of mechanical services is continuing in the
Astronomy wing. Schist stone installation is complete outside the
80 Seat Lecture Hall. Interior partition framing is continuing on
the Astronomy first floor. Drywall is being installed on walls on
the Astronomy 2nd floor area. Curtainwall installation is in
progress. The stainless steel siding on the penthouse will not
continue until the Commons roof is done. Walls in the Chemistry
wing are being painted. Fume hoods are being installed and piped.
The 2nd floor Chemistry lab casework, associated piping and wiring
is being installed. The roof above the Astronomy area will be
completed during this period.
Martin Building
- The footings and piers have been poured. Erection of the steel
bridge frame will start the week of 4/21. There will be some noise
associated with the soil backfill in the area between Martin and
Cornell around the bridge footings and piers.
Existing Dupont Research Annex
- The demolition work is nearly complete. The work to build
footings and walls for a new stairwell will continue through June
and may expose adjacent areas to construction noise.
SITEWORK:
- The infiltration cistern excavation will begin outside the
Commons during this period.
- The underground connection of HVAC piping between the Commons
and Chemistry wings has been completed and the area is being
backfilled.
PEDESTRIAN / VEHICULAR ACCESS:
- The service drive along the east face of the Chemistry
Building will be subject to occasional lane restrictions as
material deliveries are off-loaded.
- Parking along Whittier Place is prohibited during the hours of
7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- A security guard is metering the number of construction
vehicles that enter the parking lots.
- Work on the bridge that will connect Martin Building to the
Cornell Addition is underway and will continue through the end of
August. The path at grade between Martin and Cornell is closed.
Access to Cornell Library is through the new entrance at the
intersection of the Cornell Addition and the Commons. Directional
signs have been posted.
NOISE, VIBRATION, DUST, ODORS
- There may be some construction related noise evident once the
temporary partitions inside the Biology wing are removed.
- There will be some noise from delivery trucks, cranes and saws
throughout this period. These activities may be disruptive to
nearby buildings.
