Period 7 through 28 August
2003
UTILITY SHUTDOWNS:
- Electrical service in the Science Center will be interrupted
during this period so that Dupont and the Annex can be
disconnected. The shutdown will be coordinated through
Facilities.
WORK AREAS:
Cornell Library
- The second floor temporary partition will be removed and
replaced with a window frame and glass. Sills will be installed
inside the Library side of the wall.
Cornell Addition (a.k.a. Biology/ Commons Wing)
- The sidewalk into the south entrance will be under
construction during this period.
- Punchlist work will take place throughout the building during
the rest of the month. Skanska will coordinate room access
through Facilities.
Chiller Plant
- No work during this period.
Chemistry/Astronomy Wing
- There will be work throughout the building to finish roofing,
wood trim, fume hood testing and programming, mechanical system
balancing and other punchlist work. The mechanical penthouse
floor topping will be completed during this period. Application
of metal siding on the building exterior will continue.
Martin Building
- The concrete slab for the second floor of Martin will be
placed. The mechanical shafts will be cut through the upper
floors and roof. Sprinkler risers and mains are being installed
in stairwells and corridors.
Existing Dupont Research Annex
- Installation of the new handrails at the new stairs will start
during the week of 8/8. That stair is for emergency egress only,
until the rails are completed. Signs are posted at the
stairwell. Demolition of the Annex interior will start during
this period.
Existing Dupont Physics Wing
- Demolition will continue in the Physics wing.
SITEWORK:
- Rough grading and placement of paving in front of the Commons
will continue during this period. The west end of the Hicks Lot
(approximately 20 spaces) will temporarily closed as sitework
takes place in that area. This work will start on or about
8/11.
PEDESTRIAN / VEHICULAR ACCESS:
- A delivery truck pull-off has been paved at the Rugby Lot side
entry to Chemistry to serve as temporary loading point.
Disruption to traffic should be minimal.
- Parking along Whittier Place is prohibited during the hours of
7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- Work on the bridge that will connect Martin Building to the
Cornell Addition is underway and will continue through the end of
August. The path at grade between Martin and Cornell is closed.
Access to Cornell Library is through the new entrance at the
intersection of the Cornell Addition and the Commons. Directional
signs have been posted.
- Demolition work inside the Dupont Physics Wing continues.
There will be dust and noise associated with this work. There is
no public access to Dupont.
- The east entrance into Cornell will need to be closed
temporarily to rework the vestibule flooring, add entrance mat,
etc. after south entrance is re-opened.
- The main entrance to Martin will be disrupted for installation
of porous paving this will also affect the Cornell east entrance.
Paving preparation will start on Wednesday, 8/13/03 and continue
through 8/22/03. At that time, paving will be installed far
enough to have access to both buildings.
NOISE, VIBRATION, DUST, ODORS
- There will be some construction related noise, dust and
vibration during the corridor renovation work in Martin Building.
Some operations will be scheduled for evening hours to mitigate
these conditions.
- Earthmoving operations in the lawn area may produce dust when
the ground dries out.
- There will be some noise from delivery trucks, cranes and saws
throughout this period. These activities may be disruptive to
nearby buildings.
