UTILITY SHUTDOWNS:
- There are no utility shut-downs planned for this period.
WORK AREAS:
Cornell Library
- The second floor of the library remains in operation on the
west side of the temporary wall. Removal of the roof was completed
on the east side and new steel has been erected at the mechanical
penthouse on a new, flat roof. This work will continue through the
rest of the summer. At the end of July, the penthouse will be
complete and the temporary wall on the second floor will be
removed. The book shelves will be reinstalled and the carrels will
be put back in place to prepare for the new academic year.
Cornell Addition (a.k.a. Biology/ Commons Wing)
- The lower level concrete floor adjacent to Cornell will be
poured next week. Hangars for mechanical piping and duct are
being placed on the first floor Biology area.Concrete formwork for
the elevator shaft in the Commons area is in progress. The Commons
ground-level floor was poured and the formwork will be removed
next week. Stone finishes are approved and in fabrication.
Chiller Plant
- The concrete slab on grade will be placed on Monday, 5/13.
Erection of the block and brick walls is in progress.
Chemistry Wing
- Excavation and foundations are in progress. The precast
concrete panels and windows on the east face of the existing
Dupont Chemistry wing were removed. Underground utilities are
being placed and tested now. Steel erection will start during the
week of May 20.
PEDESTRIAN / VEHICULAR ACCESS:
- There will be work on Whittier Place on May 16 and 17 to place
new speed bumps. There will be corresponding lane restrictions.
Traffic will be restricted at times to a single lane. Flagpersons
will direct traffic.
- There will be more truck deliveries of structural steel during
the next two weeks. Normal traffic may be routed through the rugby
parking lot as trucks are unloaded on the service drive adjacent
to the new Chemistry wing.
- There will be intermittent lane closures of the service drive
between Dupont and Cornell in late-May.
- There will be paving repairs during the next three weeks at
the entrance to the Dupont Visitors' Lot where it connects to the
service drive. Access will be maintained throughout.
- Parking along Whittier Place is prohibited during the hours of
7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- The construction work force is getting larger. Thank you for
your cooperation in respecting the areas designated as
Construction Parking by using the rugby and Dupont parking
lots.
NOISE, VIBRATION, DUST, ODORS
- There will be some noise from concrete trucks and a crane
throughout this period. The noise is not expected to be disruptive
to nearby buildings.
- There may be some dust generated by the on-going excavation of
the Chemistry Wing footings alongside the service drive.
DELIVERIES / HEAVY EQUIPMENT:
- Expect deliveries of reinforcing steel, concrete and masonry
throughout this period.
