UTILITY SHUTDOWNS:
- There will be a brief power outage in the new Cornell Addition
on Thursday morning, 1/16, to test the emergency generator.
WORK AREAS:
Cornell Library
- Handrails are being replaced in the northeast stair tower.
Some electrical work will continue in the electrical closets.
Cornell Addition (a.k.a. Biology/ Commons Wing)
- The Biology wing was inspected and approved for occupancy by
the Commonwealth on 12/30/02. The elevator was inspected and put
into service on 1/9/03. The Borough is completing its inspection
1/14/03. Roofing at the Commons will continue during the next
week. The granite and schist veneers will continue on the 40-seat
classroom and in the Commons. Painting of walls and ceilings will
continue in the Physics labs.
Chiller Plant
- The acoustical roof screen installation will continue for two
more weeks. This building will be inspected for occupancy during
the next two weeks.
Chemistry/Astronomy Wing
- Rough-in of mechanical and electrical services is occurring in
the Astronomy wing. The granite panels are being installed on the
south facade. Interior partition framing will continue on the
first floor. The penthouse duct and piping is being completed and
tested. Window installation is in progress. The stainless steel
siding is being installed on the penthouse. Final connections are
being made to mechanical piping in preparation for starting the
units in mid-February.
Martin Building
- Removal of corridor floor tiles is complete.
SITEWORK:
- One trench remains to be cut in the North Quad to complete
sanitary tie-ins outside the construction fence. The work area is
enclosed in orange snow fence.
- The underground connection of HVAC piping between the Commons
and Chemistry wings is on-going.
PEDESTRIAN / VEHICULAR ACCESS:
- The service drive along the east face of the Chemistry
Building will be subject to occasional lane restrictions as
material deliveries are off-loaded.
- There will be intermittent closures of the service drive near
the Chemistry building on 1/14 and 1/15 while PECO connects the
gas service.
- The site fence has been relocated closer to the sidewalk
between Cornell and Dupont. Also, the site fence was re-configured
at the new entrance to the Biology wing. Primary access to the
Biology wing will be through the entrance facing Martin
Building.
- Parking along Whittier Place is prohibited during the hours of
7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- A security guard is metering the number of construction
vehicles that enter the parking lots.
NOISE, VIBRATION, DUST, ODORS
- There may be some construction related noise evident near the
temporary partitions inside the Biology wing.
- There will be some noise from delivery trucks, cranes and saws
throughout this period. These activities may be disruptive to
nearby buildings.
