UTILITY SHUTDOWNS:
- No major shutdowns are planned in the next two weeks.
WORK AREAS:
Cornell Library
- The second floor of the library remains in operation on the
west side of the temporary wall. Roofing at existing stair tower
at Cornell to be complete by end of July. Stair at north end of
Cornell will be closed until early August to allow new concrete
access stairs to roof to be poured. New sprinkler system
installation is complete and is currently being tested.
Installation of the new skylight will be complete by 7/19/02. The
temporary wall on the second floor has been relocated adjacent to
the new addition corridor. The book shelves will be reinstalled
and the carrels will be put back in place to prepare for the new
academic year.
Cornell Addition (a.k.a. Biology/ Commons Wing)
- Walls have been framed on the ground level and mechanical
services are being installed on all floors. Installation of
mechanical piping and duct is continuing on the first and second
floors. One remaining Commons concrete column and the top of the
elevator shaft are scheduled to be poured in the next two weeks.
The lower level slab has been poured to the elevator shaft.
Existing foundation walls at the Dupont Physics wing, outside of
Room 15, has been sawcut. Increased activity will be experienced
north of the Cornell Library due to the pouring of footings and
foundations for the new 40-seat classroom.
Chiller Plant
- Installation of the granite veneer is under way. Duct and pipe
installation is in progress. The cooling towers are being piped.
Delivery of the first chiller is expected before the end of the
month.
Chemistry Wing
- Steel erection is substantially complete. Elevated decks have
been poured. Astronomy area decks are complete and mechanical,
electrical and plumbing rough-in is underway.
SITEWORK:
- Chilled water piping is being installed underground from a
connection point south of Trotter Hall, north along the east side
of Beardsley Hall, to a connection point at the end of Whittier
Place during the next 5 weeks. Pedestrian traffic will be
re-routed around the front of Trotter to the new walkway to allow
excavation to begin at Beardsley.
- Two additional trenches are being cut to complete sanitary and
data line tie-ins outside the construction fence. The work area is
enclosed in orange snow fence.
PEDESTRIAN / VEHICULAR ACCESS:
- The sidewalk along the east side of Beardsley is currently
closed to pedestrians and will remain closed for a period of 4
weeks while the chilled water lines are installed. The entrance to
Beardsley will be usable in case of an emergency. The North Quad
entrance to Beardsley will remain open.
- Deliveries of concrete block, reinforcing steel, concrete and
stone will be on-going.
- Parking along Whittier Place is prohibited during the hours of
7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- The construction work force will increase further during the
summer due to other projects on north campus. Thank you for your
cooperation in respecting the areas designated as Construction
Parking by using the rugby and Dupont parking lots.
NOISE, VIBRATION, DUST, ODORS
- There will be some noise from delivery trucks and saws
throughout this period. The noise is not expected to be disruptive
to nearby buildings.
- Expect deliveries of reinforcing steel, concrete and masonry
throughout this period to generate dust on-site.
- There will be some dust generated by the on-going trenching
for the chilled water lines at Beardsley.
