UTILITY SHUTDOWNS:
- No shutdowns are scheduled during this period.
WORK AREAS:
Cornell Library
- Smoke dampers and controls will be installed in duct above the
second floor ceiling beginning 12/23. Handrails will be replaced
in the northeast stair tower. Exhaust fans and duct will be set
on the roof.
Cornell Addition (a.k.a. Biology/ Commons Wing)
- The Biology wing will be substantially completed and inspected
for occupancy by the Commonwealth and the Borough during the next
two weeks. The air handling units are operating, and were brought
under automatic control this week. The curtain wall glass at the
Commons will be completed during this period. Roofing at the
Commons will continue during the next two weeks. The Commons
elevator will be inspected for use on 12/23. The granite and
schist veneers will continue on the 40-seat classroom and in the
Commons. Slate flooring will be installed in the next two weeks.
Ceilings are near complete. Gypsum wallboard will continue to be
installed on the walls of the Physics labs.
Chiller Plant
- Electrical service and automatic controls are being installed.
The emergency generator will be tested 12/20. This building will
be inspected for occupancy during the next two weeks.
Chemistry/Astronomy Wing
- Rough-in of mechanical and electrical services is occurring on
all floors. The granite panels and schist veneer are being
installed on the west wall. Interior partitions framing will
continue on part of the first floor. The penthouse duct and piping
is being completed and tested. Window installation is in
progress. The stainless steel siding is being installed on the
penthouse.
Martin Building
- Removal of corridor floor tiles will begin 12/23.
SITEWORK:
- One trench remains to be cut in the North Quad to complete
sanitary tie-ins outside the construction fence. The work area is
enclosed in orange snow fence.
- The extension of storm and sanitary lines from existing Dupont
near the Harry Wood Garden is in progress.
PEDESTRIAN / VEHICULAR ACCESS:
- The service drive along the east face of the Chemistry
Building will be subject to occasional lane restrictions as
material deliveries are off-loaded.
- Deliveries of glass and metal fabrications are expected on
12/20.
- A delivery of granite panels is expected on 12/23.
- Delivery of a large exhaust fan is expected on 12/27.
- The site fence will be relocated closer to the sidewalk
between Cornell and Dupont. Also, the site fence will be
re-configured at the new entrance to the Biology wing during this
period.
- Parking along Whittier Place is prohibited during the hours of
7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- A security guard is metering the number of construction
vehicles that enter the parking lots. This metering will be
discontinued on 12/20/02 and resume on 1/13/03.
NOISE, VIBRATION, DUST, ODORS
- There will be significant noise from an operation to sawcut
through the foundation wall at Room 15 Dupont to create a new
corridor connection there. This work will start on 12/23 and
complete by 12/27.
- There will be some noise from delivery trucks, cranes and saws
throughout this period. The emergency generator test will
generate noise. These activities may be disruptive to nearby
buildings.
