Construction
Update as of November 22, 2002
Period 22 November to 5 December
2002
UTILITY SHUTDOWNS:
- An 8 hour electrical shutdown that will affect the Dupont
Building will occur on Saturday, November 23rd. Maintenance is
coordination with the affected departments to provide temporary
power where needed.
WORK AREAS:
Cornell Library
- Two exhaust fans will be set on the roof of Cornell during
this period.
Cornell Addition (a.k.a. Biology/ Commons Wing)
- Mechanical work is focused in the mechanical room in the lower
level. The curtain wall (exterior wall made of aluminum framing
and glass) at the Commons is being installed. Interior partitions
will have sheetrock applied in the lower level during this period.
Installation of the glass in the windows of the Biology wing and
200-seat Lecture Hall is nearly complete. Installation of the
Commons elevator is continuing. The granite and schist veneers
will continue on the 40-seat classroom and walls in the courtyard
between the Commons and Dupont. Interior walls in Biology are
being taped and spackled and in the next week will be prime
painted. Installation of lab casework will begin on November
25th. Installation of ceramic tile in the restrooms will begin in
the next week. Start-up of mechanical equipment will begin in the
next week.
Chiller Plant
- Mechanical piping and electrical services are being installed.
Chiller piping is being completed and tested. The acoustical
panels for the upper level are on site and will be installed
following installation of the column wraps.
Chemistry/Astronomy Wing
- Rough-in of mechanical and electrical services is occurring on
all floors. The granite panels and schist veneer are being
installed on the west and south walls. Installation of the
turn-coated stainless steel panels on the penthouse is underway.
Interior partitions have been framed on part of the second and
first floors; this work is continuing. The penthouse duct and
piping is being completed and tested. The floor for the 80-seat
lecture hall is being formed and will be poured in the next two
weeks.
Martin Building
- Mechanical piping is being installed in the basement crawl
space. The steam service has been connected to the Cornell
addition. Work is expected to wrap up within two weeks.
SITEWORK:
- Two additional trenches are being cut in the North Quad to
complete sanitary and data line tie-ins outside the construction
fence. The work area is enclosed in orange snow fence.
- The extension of storm and sanitary lines into the Harry Wood
Garden is on-going.
PEDESTRIAN / VEHICULAR ACCESS:
- The service drive along the east face of the Chemistry
Building will reopen in the next week.
- Deliveries of drywall, glass, stone, ductwork and electrical
fixtures will be on-going.
- Parking along Whittier Place is prohibited during the hours of
7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- There is continuing pressure on parking. Barclay White is
continuing to reorganize their operation over the next few weeks
to free up a total of 22-23 spaces in the Dupont lot and inside
the fence, which should help alleviate the problem.
- A casework delivery will occur on 11/22.
NOISE, VIBRATION, DUST, ODORS
- There will be some noise from delivery trucks, cranes and saws
throughout this period.
- The pipe welding in the Martin basement requires fan
ventilation to keep the fumes from spreading through the
building.
