Period 23 May thru 6 June
2002
UTILITY SHUTDOWNS:
- There are no utility shut-downs planned for this period.
WORK AREAS:
Cornell Library
- The second floor of the library remains in operation on the
west side of the temporary wall. Concrete has been placed at the
mechanical penthouse floor. Roofing will start next week. At the
end of July, the penthouse will be complete and the temporary wall
on the second floor will be relocated adjacent to the new addition
corridor. The book shelves will be reinstalled and the carrels
will be put back in place to prepare for the new academic
year.
Cornell Addition (a.k.a. Biology/ Commons Wing)
- The lower level concrete floor was poured. Installation of
mechanical piping and duct will begin on the second floor Biology
area within the next two weeks. Sprayed-on fireproofing is being
applied to steel columns and beams. Concrete formwork for the
elevator shaft in the Commons area is in progress. The second half
of the Commons ground-level floor is being formed and will be
poured in three weeks. The steel for the 200 seat Lecture Hall
was erected. The slab at the seating area will be formed and
poured within the next three weeks.
Chiller Plant
- The concrete slab on grade was placed. Erection of the block
and brick walls is in progress. The cooling towers will be
delivered and set on May 30th or 31st.
Chemistry Wing
- Excavation and foundations are in progress at the 80 seat
Lecture Hall. Steel erection started on May 16th and will continue
through late June.
PEDESTRIAN / VEHICULAR ACCESS:
- Sample speed bumps were installed on Whittier Place on May 16
and 17. The two other rough speed bumps will be resurfaced in the
near future.
- There will be more truck deliveries of structural steel during
the next two weeks. Normal traffic will continue to be routed
through the rugby parking lot as trucks are unloaded on the
service drive adjacent to the new Chemistry wing.
- There will be intermittent lane closures of the service drive
between Dupont and Cornell in late-May.
- There will be paving repairs next week at the entrance to the
Dupont Visitors Lot where it connects to the service drive.
Access will be maintained throughout.
- Parking along Whittier Place is prohibited during the hours of
7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- The construction work force is getting larger. Thank you for
your cooperation in respecting the areas designated as
Construction Parking by using the rugby and Dupont parking
lots.
NOISE, VIBRATION, DUST, ODORS
- There will be some noise from concrete trucks, a crane and
saws throughout this period. The noise is not expected to be
disruptive to nearby buildings.
- There may be some dust generated by the on-going excavation of
the Chemistry Wing footings alongside the service drive.
DELIVERIES / HEAVY EQUIPMENT:
- Expect deliveries of structural steel, reinforcing steel,
concrete and masonry throughout this period.
