Period 24 January - 6 February
2003
UTILITY SHUTDOWNS:
- There are no utility shut-downs scheduled for this
period.
WORK AREAS:
Cornell Library
- There is minor carpentry work scheduled in the Cornell Library
during this period. It should not be disruptive to patrons or
staff.
Cornell Addition (a.k.a. Biology/ Commons Wing)
- The Intro to Biology Lab and associated support space is in
use by the College. Minor corrective work will continue in the
occupied area through this period. Roofing at the main Commons
roof will continue during the next two weeks. The granite and
schist veneers will be completed on the 40-seat classroom and in
the Commons during this period. Painting of walls and ceilings
will continue in the Physics labs on the lower level. Lab
casework installation will start during the last week of January.
The 200-Seat Lecture Hall wood panel ceiling is being installed
and the walls are being taped and spackled.
Chiller Plant
- The acoustical roof screen installation will continue through
this period. Pipe testing and insulation as well as controls work
will continue through this period.
Chemistry/Astronomy Wing
- Rough-in of mechanical and electrical services is occurring in
the Astronomy wing. Granite panel installation is continuing on
the south facade. Interior partition framing has moved to the
Astronomy second floor. The penthouse duct and piping is being
completed and tested. Window installation is in progress. The
stainless steel siding is being installed on the penthouse. Final
connections are being made to mechanical piping in preparation for
starting the units in mid-February.
Martin Building
- No work is scheduled in Martin during this period.
Existing Dupont Research Annex
- The first and second floor labs at the southeast corner of the
Annex will be vacated at the end of February to allow the
construction of a new stair tower to start in that area. The work
will start in early March and will expose adjacent spaces to
construction noise.
SITEWORK:
- One trench remains to be cut in the North Quad to complete
sanitary tie-ins outside the construction fence. The work area is
enclosed in orange snow fence.
- The underground connection of HVAC piping between the Commons
and Chemistry wings is on-going.
PEDESTRIAN / VEHICULAR ACCESS:
- The service drive along the east face of the Chemistry
Building will be subject to occasional lane restrictions as
material deliveries are off-loaded.
- The rear door access to Cornell Library has been taken out of
service. It has reverted to an emergency exit only. Primary
access to Cornell Library and the Cornell Addition is through the
entrance facing Martin Building.
- Parking along Whittier Place is prohibited during the hours of
7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- A security guard is metering the number of construction
vehicles that enter the parking lots.
- Work on the bridge that will connect Martin Building to the
Cornell Addition will start during Spring Break and continue
through the end of July. During that period, the lower level door
that exits Martin toward Cornell will be blocked. Also,
pedestrian access to Cornell, Cornell Addition and the Commons
will be through the new set of doors at the intersection of the
Commons and the Cornell Addition. Directional signs will be
posted.
NOISE, VIBRATION, DUST, ODORS
- There may be some construction related noise evident near the
temporary partitions inside the Biology wing.
- There will be some noise from delivery trucks, cranes and saws
throughout this period. These activities may be disruptive to
nearby buildings.
