Dupont--Temporary North
Entrance-
·
ÝCeiling grid will be
installed during the week of 7/30/01.

ÝThe aluminum entrance will
be installed during the week of 7/30/01.
·
ÝThe exterior entrance ramp
and handrail are complete. The North Entrance is on schedule for
opening on 8/1/01.
Dupont--Lecture Hall
· ÝFloor tile removal is complete in the
restrooms adjacent to the Dupont Lecture Hall.
·
ÝThe
Bertoia sculpture outside the Lecture Hall
will be relocated temporarily to the McCabe Terrace prior to the
start of demolition.
·
ÝSaw-cutting of structural
members will begin during the week of 7/23 in preparation for
demolishing the Lecture Hall wing.
Dupont--Math Wing
· ÝAsbestos abatement will be coordinated with
the relocation of the Mathematics & Statistics Department.
The scheduled start date is 27 July.
·

Dupont
Physics Offices and Temporary Restrooms
·
ÝLayout and framing of new
walls is in progress. The exit doors at that lobby will be are
permanently blocked.

ÝRough-in of mechanical and
electrical services has
started.
Rugby
Field
·
ÝA stone surfaced temporary
by-pass road has been installed and will be opened to traffic on
7/30. This road will be the public access to the Dupont parking
lot. The existing access road alongside the Research Annex will
be closed and removed the week of 7/30/01.
·
ÝStockpiling of topsoil and
fill is ongoing. Construction of the swale is underway.
North
Quad
· The pedestrian path between Martin and Cornell
has been rerouted. Please follow the pathway delineated by
orange construction fencing. Temporary signs directing
pedestrians to Cornell Library will be installed shortly.
·
ÝThe installation of manhole
13 will affect the landscape, parking and access roads at Hicks and
Beardsley.
Cornell Library
· ÝInstallation of utilities in the former garden
between Cornell and Martin is underway. The temporary entrance
to Cornell is on schedule for opening 1 August.
·
ÝStructural steel will be
installed in the second floor of Cornell to allow the removal of the
canopy. The work will start after the book relocation project is
completed.
UTILITY SHUTDOWNS:

Ý
PEDESTRIAN / VEHICULAR
ACCESS:
Ý· ÝParking along Whittier Place is prohibited
during the hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Faculty and staff were advised that parking is at their own
risk. The purple permit parking signs on Whittier Place will be
removed.
·
ÝThe stair tower exit door at
the northwest corner of the Dupont Research Annex has been limited to
emergency exit only, due to construction activities outside. Signs
have been posted at all doors in the stair tower.
·
ÝInstallation of the
construction fence on the North Quad is nearly complete. Opaque
slats will be installed in the fence by 1 September to screen the
view of construction.
·
ÝThe pedestrian path between
Cornell Library and Martin Building has been rerouted. Please
follow the alternate path, delineated by the orange construction
fencing.
·
ÝThe stair tower exit on the
west side of Dupont was closed 11 July for excavation and the
installation of the temporary stair and scaffold
assembly. Signs have been posted inside the building to
this effect.Ý The exit
will reopen on 8/1.
·
ÝThe Borough has approved
eliminating parking at two spaces on Elm
Avenue near the intersection with Whittier
Place, to facilitate construction traffic. The existing street
parking signs will be relocated. Borough enforcement of the
restriction will begin in August (after a period of public
notice).

<![endif]>The parking lot access road will be opened the week of 7/30/01
and the existing road will be removed for the installation of new
utilities .
NOISE, VIBRATION, DUST, ODORS
·
ÝExcavation work is underway
between Cornell and Martin. Excavation on the west side of
Dupont will produce similar amounts of dust and noise.
·
ÝUse of the citrus-based
mastic remover as part of the asbestos abatement activities will
produce an odor in Dupont. Negative pressure and high rates of
ventilation are being used to help dissipate the odor.
·
ÝSaw-cutting at the Lecture
Hall wing and the Math wing at the end of July will last for
approximately three days. There will be significant noise and
vibration associated with this operation.
·
ÝTree clearing at the Chiller
Plant site will begin be completed the week of 30 July.
DELIVERIES / HEAVY EQUIPMENT:
·
ÝEarth-moving equipment
(backhoe, bulldozer, dump truck, etc.) is on site; there will be
additional deliveries of heavy equipment over the next one to two
weeks.
