Construction
Update as of October 25, 2002
Period 25 October to 7 November
2002
UTILITY SHUTDOWNS:
- An 8 hour electrical shutdown that will affect the Dupont
Building is in the process of being scheduled. Tentative dates
are November 16th, 23rd or 29th.
WORK AREAS:
Cornell Library
- There is no work scheduled in or on Cornell during this
period.
Cornell Addition (a.k.a. Biology/ Commons Wing)
- Mechanical services are continuing at the lower level and in
the 200-seat Lecture Hall. The wood decking and sheathing on the
beams at the Commons roof was installed. Roofing at this area will
commence during the next two weeks. Installation of the glass in
the Biology wing and 200-seat Lecture Hall windows will continue.
Installation of the Commons elevator will continue. The granite
and schist veneers will continue on the 40-seat classroom and
walls in the courtyard between the Commons and Dupont.
Chiller Plant
- Mechanical piping and electrical services are being installed.
The second chiller was delivered and set.
Chemistry/Astronomy Wing
- Rough-in of mechanical and electrical services is in on all
floors. The granite panels and schist veneer are in progress on
the east and south walls. Interior partitions have been framed on
part of the second floor and will continue. The four air handlers
for the penthouse were set and are being connected to ductwork and
piping.
Martin Building
- Mechanical piping is being installed in the basement crawl
space. Work is expected to continue for another week.
SITEWORK:
- Two additional trenches are being cut on the North Quad to
complete sanitary and data line tie-ins outside the construction
fence. The work area is enclosed in orange snow fence.
- The extension of water and fire lines to the Chiller Building
along the north edge of the service drive behind Dupont is in
progress and is expected to be complete by November 1st.
PEDESTRIAN / VEHICULAR ACCESS:
- The service drive along the east face of the Chemistry
Building will remain closed for the next two weeks while the
granite panel installation continues. Traffic has been re-routed
through the Rugby parking lot.
- The service drive behind Dupont will have intermittent
blockages until November 1st while the utilities are run to the
Chiller Building.
- Deliveries of stone, ductwork and mechanical equipment will be
on-going.
- Parking along Whittier Place is prohibited during the hours of
7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- There is continuing pressure on parking. Barclay White is in
the progress of reorganizing their operation over the next few
weeks to free up a total of 22-23 spaces in the Dupont lot, which
should help alleviate the problem.
NOISE, VIBRATION, DUST, ODORS
- There will be some noise from delivery trucks, cranes and saws
throughout this period. The noise is not expected to be disruptive
to nearby buildings.
- Large sections of curtain wall are expected to be delivered
within the next two weeks.
