Construction
Update as of April 26, 2004
Period 26 April through 9 May
2004
Please note: Planning is underway for
regrading of the service drive on the north side of Dupont Building.
The roadway will be raised about three feet behind Dupont to improve
access to the loading dock and provide ADA access to the north side
of the building. The service drive will be closed to all but
emergency traffic for about two weeks, sometime in May. Please
contact Janet
Semler if you have information about
scheduled events and/or critical needs related to the service drive,
so that information can be incorporated in the planning process.
Thank you.
UTILITY SHUTDOWNS:
- None planned at this time.
WORK AREAS:
Cornell Addition (a.k.a. Biology/ Commons Wing)
- Planting in the garden between Cornell and Martin will
continue.
Existing Dupont Physics Wing
- Installation of floors and lab casework will continue through
this period. Remaining walls on the Lower Level will be taped,
spackled and painted. Ceiling grid will continue throughout.
Wainscot and tack board will continue throughout. The bridge that
connects the Physics wing to the Commons, near Room 101, will
receive slate floor tile during this period. Utility connections
to service frames and casework will be on-going. The exterior of
the building will be washed down.
Existing Dupont Chemistry Wing
- Installation of tables and desktops will continue. Final roof
repairs will start. Lighting and fire alarm device installation
will continue on the lower level. Gypsum wallboard will be taped,
spackled and painted in the Lower Level. Air handlers 3 and 4
will be put under full control and balanced. Plumbing fixtures
will be installed. The exterior of the building will be washed
down.
SITEWORK:
- Stone paving at the end of Whittier near Beardsley will be
on-going during this period.
- The Harry Wood garden will be prepared for planting.
- Beginning May 3rd, the service drive behind Dupont will be
closed Monday through Friday each week for four weeks so that the
existing road can be re-graded and re-paved and an existing storm
line can be replaced. More detailed
notification has been published.
PEDESTRIAN / VEHICULAR ACCESS:
- The delivery truck pull-off at the Rugby Lot side entry to
Chemistry remains in service as temporary loading point.
- Parking along Whittier Place is prohibited during the hours of
7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- There is no public access to Dupont.
NOISE, VIBRATION, DUST, ODORS
- Earthmoving operations behind Dupont may produce dust.
- There will be some noise from delivery trucks, cranes and saws
throughout this period. These activities may be disruptive to
nearby buildings.
More detailed notice of regrading
work behind Dupont:
The service drive behind Dupont, which leads to the circle
in front of LPAC and Lang Music, will be closed from May 3rd through
May 28th, except for weekends. This is necessary to complete the
last major piece of site work for the Science Center: regrading the
road, paving, and installing the storm line which will connect the
storm water vault under the North Quad with the existing vault under
the road behind Martin Hall.
The service drive will be passable for cars each weekend.
The road surface will be irregular, a combination of compressed stone
and steel plates. However, because of the number of tripping
hazards, the road will remain closed to pedestrians throughout the
month of May.
THE SERVICE DRIVE WILL BE CLOSED EACH WEEK FROM MONDAY 7:00
A.M. TO FRIDAY 4:00 P.M., MAY 3RD THROUGH MAY 28TH.
Parking spaces along the service drive will be inaccessible
except on weekends. If you regularly park in that area, please make
alternate arrangements.
Passenger drop-off to LPAC and Lang Music will be available
each weekend.
Handicapped parking behind Martin will be available each
weekend.
Pedestrians will be directed from the Dupont and Rugby
parking lots across the North Quad.
Please contact me if you have any questions. Thanks in
advance for your patience. The end is in sight!
