UTILITY SHUTDOWNS:
- There are no utility shut-downs planned for this period.
WORK AREAS:
Cornell Library
- The second floor of the library remains in operation on the
west side of the temporary wall. Construction is proceeding on
the east side, to build a mechanical penthouse on a new, flat
roof. This work will continue through the rest of the spring
semester and the summer. At the end of July, the penthouse will be
complete and the temporary wall on the second floor will be
removed. The book shelves will be reinstalled and the carrels will
be put back in place to prepare for the new academic year.
Cornell Addition (a.k.a. Biology/ Commons Wing)
- Excavation and placement of footings in the Commons and
Lecture Hall areas will continue throughout this period.
Foundation wall forms will be erected and concrete poured at the
basement area south of the existing Dupont Physics wing. Mock-ups
of concrete and stone finishes are in progress. Placement of
utilities under the basement slab is in progress. The basement
concrete slab will be placed during the next three weeks. Steel
deck placement is in progress on the Cornell Addition.
Chiller Plant
- The chilled water lines were extended into the building from
the manhole in the Visitors Lot. The steel erection is in
progress. The footings will be completed this week. The
under-slab utilities are installed.
Chemistry Wing
- Excavation for the building foundation will begin in this area
on 4/2.
PEDESTRIAN / VEHICULAR ACCESS:
- The temporary walkway between Martin and Cornell buildings
will be blocked on Saturday, April 6th between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30
p.m. for removal of the temporary shoring. Visitors to Cornell
will be directed around Dupont to the rear temporary stairs during
this period. Signs will be posted to this effect.
- There will be truck deliveries of reinforcing steel and
masonry block next week.
- There will be some construction traffic crossing the sidewalk
connecting Dupont to Cornell, along the access road. Safety
monitors will be posted.
- Parking along Whittier Place is prohibited during the hours of
7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- The construction work force is getting larger. Thank you for
your cooperation in respecting the areas designated as
Construction Parking by using the rugby and Dupont parking
lots.
NOISE, VIBRATION, DUST, ODORS
- There will be some noise from excavation equipment and
concrete trucks throughout this period. The noise is not expected
to be disruptive to nearby buildings.
- There may be some dust generated by the excavation of the
Chemistry Wing footings alongside the service drive.
DELIVERIES / HEAVY EQUIPMENT:
- Expect deliveries of reinforcing steel, concrete and masonry
throughout this period. There will also be movement of dump
trucks around the site.
