Construction Update as of June 28, 2001
CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY UPDATE
Period 25 June - 9 July 2001
WORK AREAS:
- Dupont--Temporary North Entrance. Demolition and abatement
work is complete. · Mechanical work and ceiling grid will be
installed during the week of 7/2/01. The exterior entrance ramp
and handrail will be complete 6/29/01. The North Entrance is on
schedule for opening on 8/1/01.
- Dupont--Lecture Hall . Asbestos abatement will be completed
this week. Floor tile removal will begin in the restrooms
adjacent to the Dupont Lecture Hall on Tuesday, 12 June. Removal
of the mastic will require use of the citrus-based product.
- Dupont--Math Wing · Asbestos abatement will be
coordinated with the relocation of the Mathematics &
Statistics Department.
UTILITY SHUTDOWNS:
- The Cornell Library domestic water supply and sanitary drain
line will be shut down during the week of 7/9/01 for approximately
one day. Detailed coordination with the Library will occur next
week.
PEDESTRIAN / VEHICULAR ACCESS:
- The speed bumps on Whittier Place were milled down on 6/27/01
to allow for equipment deliveries. Parking along Whittier Place is
prohibited during the hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through
Friday.
- The stair tower exit door at the northwest corner of the
Dupont Research Annex has been limited to emergency exit only, due
to construction activities outside. Signs have been posted at all
doors in the stair tower.
- During the week of 7/2/01, tree removal will require temporary
closure of approximately three parking spaces on the north side of
Dupont.
- Installation of the construction fence on the North Quad will
begin the week of 7/2/01.
- The pedestrian path between Cornell Library and Martin
Building is no longer in service.
NOISE, VIBRATION, DUST:
- Excavation work has begun between Cornell and
Martin.
- Excavation and tree removal is ongoing on the service road
behind Dupont and Cornell.
- Use of the citrus-based mastic remover as part of the asbestos
abatement activities will produce an odor in Dupont. Negative
pressure and high rates of ventilation are being used to help
dissipate the odor.
CONSTRUCTION DELIVERIES / HEAVY EQUIPMENT ON SITE:
- Earth-moving equipment (backhoe, bulldozer, dump truck, etc.)
is on site; there will be additional deliveries of heavy equipment
over the next one to two weeks.
