The WebCam view at right is of traffic entering and
leaving Swarthmore College on Whittier Place. A calibrated
microphone, mounted on the camera, senses noise from
construction and other traffic. Through a wireless
video/audio link, the signals are transmitted to a computer
which analyzes the microphone output and calculates
A-weighted decibels (dBA).
A graph (to appear below) of the noise level versus time,
as well as summary statistics, will keep nearby residents
informed about noise levels. Associated with each noise
event over 85 dBA is a snapshot from the camera.
